#TipforTuesday - IQBar's time zone

This week’s #TipforTuesday is all about time at IQBar.

What do we mean by time?

Well, IQBar is a global company. Based in the UK teaching Chinese students means that already we have two time zones at play, British and Chinese. Throw into the mix our Buddies based all around of the world, from Brazil to Scotland, South Africa to Spain, there are people awake and working at all hours. This sounds like it could get a bit confusing, huh?

So what time zone does IQBar work in? IQBar works in GMT, also known as Greenwich Mean Time. This is the time zone of the UK and covers all of the UK. Unlike other countries, there is only one time zone. All sessions at present will be appearing on your schedule in UK (GMT) time.

The clock in the classroom will appear in your local time zone but don’t forget that your sessions will all be in your schedule in UK time!

This sounds simple, and it is! …However twice a year it gets a little more confusing. During the summer time, normally starting around the end of March, Britain has Daylight Saving Time and loses an hour. The time zone becomes BST (British Summer Time) and means that if it normally was 11am, it would change to 10am. You can read more about British Summer Time here . BST ends around the final week of October – this year October 28th – and returns to GMT.

China does not have Daylight Saving Hours so for them, and for Buddies living in countries without Daylight Saving, teaching hours do not change. But the times on your schedule will change as they will be UK time so it is important to remember when the time changes take place and what the correct time is in the UK.

For example, in GMT, peak hours will be Monday-Friday 7am – 2pm

In BST, peak hours will be Monday-Friday – 8am – 3pm
